In preparation for the potential downsizing of the Shuttle workforce, BWDB took initial steps to ensure that service delivery to the aerospace workforce included several access points. Additionally, we planned to relocate the Brevard Workforce Career Center at Searstown Titusville to a smaller office space at Brevard Community College in partnership with Parrish Medical Center.
Through this process, BWDB purchased a mobile one-stop unit calling it the Brevard Workforce Express. The ‘bus,’ as it is often referred to, is essentially a career center on wheels. The Express is a 13-station computer lab with state-of-the-art equipment including Internet access. The mobile unit includes most of the resources available in the ‘bricks and mortar’ Brevard Workforce Resource Rooms.
The Express was presented to the public at a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on January 8, 2008 at the Harry T. Moore Social Services Center in Titusville. Community leaders and visitors at the event remarked on the unique features the Express had to offer and considered the many ways they might enlist its use at many of their own organizations events and programs. A reception and ribbon cutting were provided to the guests. Through the event several sponsors were identified providing their support to the endeavors of the mobile one stop unit.
Sponsors are:
Parrish Medical Center, Brevard Community College, ITT Corporation and Austin Realty.
